Michael Kors acquires luxury shoe brand

6By Amber Monaé

Jimmy Choo was founded in 1996 and quickly skyrocketed to the top of the luxury shoe ranks thanks to red carpet placements and a new hit show called “Sex and the City,” the show was a game changer for the brand. Jimmy Choo changed hands through private companies a few times before becoming the first luxury shoe brand to go public in 2014.

Michael Kors CEO John D. Idol confirmed that Jimmy Choo CEO Pierre Denis will stay on, as will creative director Sandra Choi. “Ms. Choi and the rest of the highly-talented management team have done a tremendous job, and this continuity of leadership will ensure that the DNA of Jimmy Choo is maintained as we work together to continue to grow the brand globally.

Interestingly enough, Coach (MK competitor) recently acquired Stuart Weitzman 2 years ago.

Escada Resort 18 Press Preview

By Amber Monaé

On a dreary afternoon, I had the pleasure of a personal walk through of the Escada Resort 18 collection, exclusively at the Escada showroom. Immediately walking in my mood completely changed as the colorful looks that greeted me at the door were a welcomed replacement to this bi-polar New York City weather. From first glance, I was overwhelming pleased at what I was about to witness. The direction of the brand led under a new CEO seems to be working as every piece was perfectly tailor-made. (more…)

Jenna Lyons Steps Down

By Amber Monaé

Yesterday, it was announced that fashion icon Jenna Lyons is leaving her role at J.Crew after 26 yrs together. She will continue to be creative advisor for the brand until her contract expires this December. Her quirky styling sensibilities, affinity for mixed prints, and ability to seamlessly mix elements of menswear with feminine staples gave the brand’s preppy wares a modern, fresh appeal — seen in everything from its catalogs to its well-loved New York Fashion Week presentations.  Lyons reportedly had been spending much less time on day-to-day design duties, positioning her as more of a face of J.Crew than a creative director. The Women’s Head of Design, Somsack Sikhounmuong — who moved to J.Crew from sister label Madewell in 2015 — will be promoted to the role of chief design officer. –fashionista
