As New York Men’s Fashion Week came to a close one of the highlights of the week was the 2017 inaugural Blue Jacket Fashion Show brought out celebrities on the blue carpet for a great cause. In partnership with Johnson & Johnson it benefited the Prostate Cancer Foundation and took place Wednesday, Feb. 1st at Pier59 Studios. It brought together the best of fashion, entertainment, sports, healthcare and media worlds to generate national buzz and bring much needed attention to men’s cancer awareness and prevention, with an emphasis on prostate cancer.
Playing the hilarious host of the night Carson Kressley gave us the facts about the terrible disease. According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, statistics show that prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America. It affects every one out of eight men at some point in their lifetimes. Every 2.9 minutes a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer, and millions of men and their families are fighting this disease on any given day across the globe.
Top designers Nicole Miller, Haspel, Proper Cloth, Theory, Joseph Abboud, Gustavo Moscoso, Stephen Ferber, Nick Graham, Thom Browne, John Varvatos, Rag & Bone and Maggie Norris were enlisted to reinvent the traditional blue blazer and was showcased by celebrities and influencers on the runway. The night started off with a musical performance from Ian Mellencamp of his hit song Headspace and end a surprise performance after the end of the runway from Singer Meldba Moore. After the fashion show, the select designer jackets were auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the PCF along with dinner and blue cocktails to end the night.
