Justin Anderson: The Onassis Man & Celeb Hair Colorist

justin 1Onassis menswear came on the fashion scene four years ago and integrated high-tech treatments into sophisticated casual wear essentials. Onassis men are entrepreneurs in each of their endeavors, from their businesses to their personal lives. They are creative risk takers who are visionaries with the confidence and swagger that is the characteristic of today’s entrepreneur.

As I stepped into the global flagship Soho store nestled on the cobblestone block of Greene Street to celebrate the Spring/Summer Launch of the Onassis Man, I started thinking about men that I could style in these relaxed contemporary pieces. I was immediately drawn to the pictures on the wall and noticed that the men in the photos were also in attendance that night. Thought it was pretty cool. Even more cool was the interview I later had with celebrity hair colorist Justin Anderson about what it means to be a Onassis man. He is responsible for Jennifer Aniston’s highlights, Miley Cyrus’ blonde and Kelly Osbourne’s lavender hair. Justin founded dpHUE, (do professional) which is disrupting the at-home color industry by providing professionally mixed color for at home use. He creates, innovates and cultivates his legacy from the ground up which makes him the embodiment of a “Onassis Man”.  Read the interview here.

What does being a “Onassis Man” mean to you?

JA: I like the idea of men representing different brands and showcasing entrepreneurship. I love not being forced to wear traditional business suits. I like clothes that are exciting.

How did you become a “Onassis Man”?

JA: Through referral emails with people who I know. It sounded really cool. I have a handful of colorful tattoos and love wearing black, navy and gray which are in line with the Onassis brand.

So you are a celebrity hair colorist. You’ve worked with Jennifer Lopez. How did you get started with coloring hair for celebrities?

JA: I was really passionate about hair color and I started working with Kirsten Dunst. I was then named a young colorist to look out for and my career started from there.

What is dpHUE and what was the inspiration for it?

JA: Right now we are launching through a evine line selling hair color. You can shop from home and someone can be set up with DIY. You can pop in and get trained in our two color bars in Minneapolis and LA. I realized there was a need for women to cover those pesky grays and the products they were using were not good. dpHUE products are good quality, made from Italy, cream-based and low in ammonium. The inspiration was for the everyday woman in Beverly Hills and a new business that handles what women need.

What are your go-to pieces?

JA: I have a gold Rolex that I love. I love functioning pieces and like to keep it simple but my go-to Onassis pieces are the v-neck kit t-shirts and the blazer.  I like to layer and pair things with my favorite jeans. I also love my Rick Owens leather jacket and my Onassis ombre tank.

On my next trip to LA, I will definitely be stopping in to get my dpHUE products and learn how to cover my grays myself! Visit www.dphue.com to shop the color kits, shampoos and more.
