E!’s Fashion Police hit a sour note

Disney Star, Zendaya was caught in a twitter war last night thanks to a comment made on the E!’s network hit show Fashion Police. E!’s top rated host Giuliana Rancic, made a comment that Zendaya looked like she smelled of “like patchouli oil… or maybe weed,” because of her loc’ed hairstyle. Zendaya wearing a white Vivienne Westwood dress at the Oscars looked nothing like that to me. From there on twitter exploded with many viewers outraged to the point that Zendaya herself had to respond. Read it here.zendaya academy awards viivenne westwood locs

Zendaya stated, There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful. Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect.

She then went on to say, I’ll have you know my father, brother, best childhood friend, and all my little cousins have locs. Do you want to know what Ava Duvernay (director of Oscar nominated film Selma), Ledisi (9 time Grammy Award nominated singer songwriter/actress), Terry McMillan (author), Vincent Brown (Professor of African-American studies at Harvard University), Heather Andrea Williams (Historian who also possesses a JD from Harvard University and an MA and PHD from Yale University), as well as many other women and children of all races have in common? Locs. None of which smell of marijuana.”

Zendaya has appeared on the Fashion Police several times and it is known to be a comedic take on the fashion industry, not to be taken seriously. So what do you guys think, was Giuliana Rancic wrong or are people too sensitive? Speak on it!

I personally, just wish people of other races would stop commenting on black hair, it is beyond annoying and I unfortunately have to deal with it too being I am a naturalist.
