Hot off the heels of an extremely successful event in Miami for Art Basel, The Athletes for Art Renaissance Tour invaded New York City for NBA All Star Weekend. Actor, Malik Yoba and Mashonda Tifrere hosted the event while guests sipped on gin cocktails. The evening was interactive and unique as patrons were treated to live paintings, performance arts, culinary artistry and unique mixology. Former college football player, Chris Nelson painted a vehicle and featured athletic artists in attendance were Utah Jazz player Jeremy Evans, NFL Player Lance Kendricks, NFL Star Aaron Maybin, former NBA Star Desmond Mason and others who lended their talent for the AART event which took place in the Manhattan Motocars Showroom .
Founder of AART Jumoke Mendez had this to say about the event. “Ever since the inaugural event in Hollywood, California, the AART has created a diverse atmosphere for athletes and entertainers, allowing for them to immerse themselves in art like never before. The last event in Miami was outstanding and now bringing the event to New York where the idea was born, I know it will be nothing short of memorable.” And that it was.
In addition to the artsy festivities, a portion of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to the Smile Design Gallery, a gallery that merges art with the mission of providing dental treatment for people who need care.
Athletes and Artists animate and empower our communities. AART breaks the myth that you are either an athlete or artist and brings together these two areas of influence by showcasing artwork from all athletes in a variety of mediums. Through artistic expression, AART promotes relationship building, stimulates imaginations, acknowledges, different viewpoints and empowers athletes to be global ambassadors for change. This was the third event of the AART tour and next stop is Paris later in Spring 2015. Check out some of the artwork of the night.
